Little Rock Central's mascot is the Bengal Tiger. The athletic teams used to be known as the Bengals with orange and black as the school colors. Sometime in the early 1940's the nickname evolved into the Tigers and the colors became black and old gold.

The first Tiger football game was played at West End Park in 1894.

Little Rock Central holds the consecutive State Football Championship record with 6 (1952-1957).

Tiger football has won 30 State Championships, which is the 2nd most in the United States.

Tiger football has won 2 National Championships (1946, 1957).

The Tiger baseball team has won 9 State Championships.

Little Rock Central has won more State Championships in team sports than any other school in America.

Coach Earl Quigley coached Tiger athletics to 40 State Championships.

Coach Earl Quigley originally came to Little Rock from Wisconsin.  It is believed that he requested that the music for Central's fight song be taken from the University of Wisconsin's fight song, "On Wisconsin".

Tiger football has an overall record of 698 wins, 266 losses, 50 ties (record from 1905-1999). This record ranks 3rd among all high schools in America.

The present coach, Bernie Cox, has won more football games than any other football coach at Little Rock Central.

Little Rock Central has sent more players to play college football than any other school in the south.

The Tiger football team is 110 - 51 - 6 against out of state competition.

Earl Quigley's track squads were featured three times on Ripley's "Believe It Or Not". They won 50 consecutive meets, they went 15 years without a defeat, and when they won 97 consecutive meets.

In 1901, the Tigers beat the University of Arkansas 5 - 0.

In 1918, the Tigers beat Henderson - Brown University (Henderson State) 7 - 0.

In 1919, the Tigers beat Paragould High School 90 - 0 and defeated Russellville High School 174 - 0.

In 1927, the Tigers beat the University of Memphis 70 - 0.

The 1975 Tiger football team, with QB Houston Nutt and WR Robert Farrell, is considered to be one of the best Arkansas high school football teams in the later part of this century.

In the early 1900's a high school team could win both the High School and Collegiate State Championships. Little Rock High School won both many times.

In the early years of football, a touchdown was only 5 points.

1910 was the first year to play 4 quarters (10 minutes each). Football games used to be two 20 minute halves.

1910 was the first year for pre-participation physicals for athletes.
