Henderson Junior High School, located at 401 Barrow Road, was named after G. DeMatt Henderson Sr., a member of the Little Rock School District Board of Directors, 1918-1930. The school was opened for the 1965-66 school year and contains the orthopedic wing for special education of physically handicapped students.

When Henderson Junior High School was opened it was considered a modern beauty for its skylights and courtyards. In 1992, Henderson became a magnet school and was given its current name - Henderson Health Sciences Magnet Junior High.
